Shipping eyeglass frames from China calls for a different decision for a small sample package than for a production order. Express, air freight and sea freight can all be relevant, but no mode is automatically best for every order. Compare the deadline, packed shipment, destination and full delivery scope before selecting one.
This is a planning guide for business buyers, not a freight quotation. Carrier services, routes and rates change. Ask a carrier or forwarder for current options against your actual cartons.
If you are still choosing frames or comparing suppliers, the affordable wholesale frame buying guide covers the steps before arranging delivery.
Express: start with samples and small urgent packages
Express courier service can be practical when you need samples, prototypes or a small shipment with a clear receiving address. Before booking, check the service’s chargeable weight, packaging limits, customs paperwork and whether the quoted service reaches the final address.
Do not assume the convenience of a sample shipment will make express economical for a later bulk order. Requote after you know the production carton count and packed dimensions.
Air freight: compare speed with total handling
Air freight may suit a larger time-sensitive order that is less suitable for courier service. Compare airport-to-airport and door-to-door offers carefully; they do not cover the same services. Ask what happens at origin and destination, who handles clearance and how final delivery is arranged.
A faster flight does not necessarily mean every door-to-door step is faster by the same amount. Build in the time needed for packing, pickup, export processing, import clearance and local delivery. Use quoted schedules rather than an industry-wide promise.
Sea freight: allow for the complete route
Sea freight is an option for larger, less time-sensitive shipments. A forwarder may offer less-than-container-load or another suitable arrangement, depending on the packed volume and route. Compare all origin, consolidation, destination and inland charges, not just an ocean-freight line.
DHL Global Forwarding’s air-versus-ocean guide frames this as a trade-off involving time, cost and schedule flexibility. Use a live quote for your route; a broad statement that sea is cheaper does not establish the lowest delivered cost for a small frame order.
Send the same shipment facts to each provider
Prepare a short shipping brief with:
- Collection address or origin city and final delivery address or named place.
- Number of cartons, each carton’s dimensions, gross weight and packed volume.
- Contents described accurately as eyeglass frames, with model and material information where requested for documents.
- Planned ready date and latest useful arrival date.
- Requested service scope: pickup, export handling, international transport, insurance, clearance and final delivery.
- The seller’s proposed trade term and which charges the frame quotation already includes.
If carton details are not final, label the figures as provisional and ask when the quote must be updated. DHL’s freight FAQ notes that estimates depend on origin, destination, weight and how quickly the shipment is needed.
Match the shipping quote to the purchase contract
The ICC’s Incoterms® 2020 questions and answers distinguish delivery points, risk transfer and cost obligations. State the agreed rule, named place and edition in the purchase documents. Confirm what the seller’s price includes before buying overlapping freight services.
The trade rule does not choose a carrier for you or settle every question about customs, insurance, payment and product acceptance. Discuss those separately with the relevant parties.
For a full budget, use our landed-cost worksheet for wholesale frames. The quotation checklist helps align product and delivery terms across suppliers.
Protect the product and the buying timeline
Ask the supplier for the planned packing method and final carton details. Confirm whether cases, individual bags, dividers or other packing elements are part of the order and whether any change affects dimensions or cost. Agree how shortages or transport damage will be documented on receipt.
Do not book freight for a promised completion date without confirming when the goods will actually be packed and ready for collection. Recheck the schedule after sample approval and before final dispatch.
If you are planning an import, send your frame requirements and destination when you request a wholesale quotation. We can discuss the product and the offered delivery basis; your forwarder or customs adviser should confirm market-specific shipping and import charges.
Frequently asked questions
Is express always the best way to send eyewear samples?
It can be convenient for a small sample package, but check the actual destination, packed dimensions, urgency and service quote. Do not assume one mode is universally best.
Should I use air or sea for a bulk frame order?
Ask for both when timing allows. Compare the complete quoted route, final delivery date and responsibilities against your order size and sales schedule.
Does a door-to-door quote include import duty and tax?
Not automatically. Ask exactly which charges and services are included, and confirm import treatment for your market with a qualified specialist.
